KOICA, in Partnership with GTSS and RP, organized final performance sharing event of KOICA Volunteer program 3rd Cohort ( Digital) at Lemigo Hotel

Kigali, December 5, 2025 — Today, Lemigo Hotel hosted the 2025 Final Achievement Sharing Event, a major celebration recognizing the success of Rwandan youth in digital education and innovation. The event, organized by KOICA in partnership with Rwanda Polytechnic (RP), ICT Innovation Center Startups, and Gacuriro Technical Secondary School (GTSS), awarded certificates to over 20 trainees and startups who demonstrated exceptional skills in technology, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

Youth Teams Showcase Digital Innovation

Three teams—WandaGirls, ROGIN, and KOREWANDA—presented the outcomes of their projects, reflecting months of hands-on training and community engagement through the KOICA Mid-Term Youth Volunteers (Digital), 3rd Cohort program.

Team WandaGirls (ICT Innovation Center)

  • Marketing & Branding Course (8 weeks): Trainees gained expertise in AI tools, brand identity, digital marketing, and visual design, creating logos, slogans, characters, and social media content.
  • Mobile App Development (15 sessions): Using Flutter, participants developed fully functional mobile app prototypes. One trainee shared he previously disliked coding but now confidently creates apps.
  • Startup Infographic Support (25 startup teams): WandaGirls successfully completed 100% of infographic projects through structured data collection, feedback, and revisions.

Team ROGIN (Gacuriro Technical Secondary School)

  • Regular Classes: Excel and Photoshop projects improved practical skills, completing 9 Excel projects and 17 Photoshop designs.
  • Special Classes: Digital literacy, AI & K-Culture projects, and typing competitions boosted student skills. Typing speed improved from 20 WPM to 45 WPM, a 125% increase.
  • Teacher Training (CPD): 4-week training in AI tools, Canva, and presentation design increased teacher proficiency and confidence.

Team KOREWANDA (Rwanda Polytechnic, Kigali)

  • Arduino & IoT Training: Hands-on sensor projects and IoT prototypes.
  • Scratch and Unity 3D Game Development: Students developed playable games and simple 3D game prototypes.

Special Lectures: AI demonstrations and IT career guidance inspired students’ future pathways.

Impact and Highlights

The event highlighted high engagement and practical learning, with trainees producing IoT projects, mobile apps, games, branding campaigns, Photoshop works, and Excel-based solutions.

One standout story was a trainee who presented a Flutter mobile app, sharing that he once disliked coding but is now able to develop apps confidently—a testament to the program’s transformative impact.

Bikorimana Jean Bosco, teacher at Gacuriro TSS, praised the dedication and growth of students. KIM JIN HWA, KOICA Rwanda Country Director, officially closed the ceremony, stating: “We are the champions.”

The event coincided with International Volunteer Day, recognizing the vital role of volunteers, educators, and partner institutions in shaping Rwanda’s next generation of digital innovators.

The KOICA Mid-Term Youth Volunteers (Digital), 3rd Cohort, in partnership with Rwanda Polytechnic, ICT Innovation Center Startups, and Gacuriro TSS, continues to empower youth with practical ICT skills, creativity, and entrepreneurial confidence.
